In compliance

orders
from you
dated the 5th instant, directing me to proceed coastwise to Hainan, I have to report to
you
that I left Hongkong on the morning
of the same day,
but in consequence of
the bursting of several of the tubes in the boilers, being unable to keep up
steam, and there being
at the time a strong
flood
tide, without any wind, I was compelled,
to come to an anchor off the Island of
Lintin at 9 P. M.
